The Westjet Company was first started in the year 1996. Westjet Airlines was founded by Clive Beddoe, Mark Hill, Tim Morgan and Donald Bell. These four metropolis entrepreneurs were inspired by the low fare air travel in Canada and the team started their research on the successful airlines in North America who provides air travel at affordable prices to everyone. The whole team has few months to develop their business plan and financial prototype. In January 1996 Westjet Airlines have purchased three Boeing 737-200 aircrafts and their business capital has increased to begin all their operations.
The first flight operations have been Started by Westjet on 29th February 1996. At the beginning they have hired only 220 employees and aircrafts flying to Edmonton, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver and Kelowna. Later they have started their services to many cities. In july 1999, the Westjet has accomplished its Initial Public Offering of 2.5 million towards common shares. With the help of dedicated executive team, CIBC World Markets and Insurance Underwriters, this has earned sufficient capital to expand their company and this company has also started hanger services at Calgary.
Now, the Westjet employs around 6,000 employees and the whole staff is well trained to serve all their customers. Presently, this Westjet company is carrying people to 23 Canadian destinations and it flies seasonally to 10 International destinations. Until now the Westjet airlines has served 9.4 million customers safely to their desired destinations.
The Westjet Airlines founder has been honored as 'The Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year' for providing their services to all Canadian travelers for low fares and in the same the founders of the Westjet has received an International Entrepreneurship Award for their extraordinary teamwork. They have also added their first four next generation Boeing 737-700 aircraft. The Westjet Airlines was also identified one of the top 100 employers in the year 2002.
