The Virgin Blue Airlines is an Australian low-cost airline and Australia's second-biggest airline. Virgin Blue Airlines was founded by the British businessman Richard Branson's Virgin Group and is now majority controlled by Toll Holdings. It is based in Brisbane and Queensland. Virgin Blue is one of the world's most recognized and respected brands. Conceived in 1970 by Sir Richard Branson, this Group has gone on to develop very successful businesses in various sectors ranging from mobile telephony, to transportation, travel, financial services, leisure, music, holidays, publishing and retailing.
Virgin Blue Airlines was launched on 3 August 2000, with two aircraft initially offering 7 return flights a day between Brisbane and Sydney. This Virgin Airlines has been expanded to cover all major Australian cities and many holiday destinations. From September 2003 Virgin Blue offered cheaper service between New Zealand and mainland Australia. From 2006 Virgin Blue announced its intention to operate up to 7 flights a week to the US using Los Angeles International Airport .This Airline has also expressed its interest in flying to Japan.

Originally this was called the Blue Room and provided facilities to members and guests on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Virgin Blue was the first carrier outside North America to introduce multi-channel real-time satellite TV to its flights. Pacific Blue airlines Operates trans-Tasman services and also services for the Pacific Islands. It also provides International services for Air France, Air New Zealand, American Airlines, Australian Airlines, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Emirates, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, United Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic. Virgin Blue flies to major Australian centers and tourist hot-spots, including: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Cairns, Darwin, Hobart, Alice Spring, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Whitsunday Coasts. Virgin Blue Airlines also offers flights to exotic getaways such as Fiji and Vanuatu as well as service to Newcastle, Coffs Harbour, Ballina Byron, Hervey Bay, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville, Broome and Lauceston.
