BWIA Airlines
The BWIA means British West Indian Airways and this company was founded by Lowell Yerex who is a native of New Zealander and launched on 27th November 1940. The BWIA Airlines has started all their operations with a Lockheed Lodestar on everyday services within Trinidad and Barbados. This Airline company bought three aircrafts in the year 1942 and BWIA Airlines was adopted by British South American Airways, the name BWIA was continued by them and operated routes between Caribbean Islands. In the year 1949, this British South American Airways is united with British Overseas Airways Corporation and this company became auxiliary of British Overseas Airways Corporation.
The British West Indian Airways headquarters are located at Port Of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. After introducing Boeing 727 this company started to increase their revenue and with the Boeing 707 the London Route was again started in the year 1975. The West Indian Airways has started their operations internationally in the year 1980 after combining with the Trinidad and Tobago Airways and it became BWIA International.
The BWIA company for the first time has purchased McDonnell Douglas MD-83 aircraft in the year 1986 and later, ten MD-83 aircrafts were operated from their main bases internationally. In the year 2003, the BWIA- West Indian Airways has become top Caribbean airlines. They are carrying around 1.4 million passengers every year with almost 600 destinations in the Caribbean Islands and 60 international destinations every workweek. The total revenue of BWIA is approximately US$ 276 million every year.
This company employs around 2,350 employees and with 70 flights. The BWIA Airlines also provided cargo services to their customers and it roughly carried 8100 metric tons of cargo. They render excellent customer service and also give value for money. After making an agreement with the United Airlines they have provided connecting service to Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles and Denver. The BWIA Airlines had also a bond with Caribbean Airline Company.
