The Air Berlin Airlines was established in 1978 by a former Pan Am captain in Oregon (USA). The first Air Berlin Airlines flight started from Berlin-Tegel to Palma de Mallorca on 28th April 1979 using a Boeing 707 aircraft. Later the Air Berlin started it's regularly serves to all the other major holiday destinations on the Mediterranean coast, North Africa, Portugal and Canary Islands. In the year 1997 The Air Berlin Airlines joined in International Air Transport Association, then started it's regular flights to European business capitals, like London, Vienna, Barcelona and Zurichin.
In the year 1990 the Air Berlin was acquired by the German investors, they taken a majority part in the company. This Airlines was registered under German law and renamed as Air Berlin. In the year 2006 the Air Berlin owned 100% of the shares in dba Air lines. Then also the two airlines continued to operate under their separate identities only. But the dba is Marketed as Air Berlin "powered by dba". In the year 2007 the Air Berlin captured 100% of the German charter carrier LTU and 49% of the Swiss airline Belair. The Air Berlin is the second most prominent airline in Germany. The Air Berlin Offers extensive low-cost services to holiday destinations on the Mediterranean as well as in Europe from 16 major German airports. It's main base is at Berlin (Germany) -Tegel International Airport, and others are at Nuremberg Airport, Son Sant Joan Airport, Palma de Mallorca and London Stansted Airport. The Air Berlin Carried over 19.7 million passengers in 2006.

The Air Berlin Airlines is the second biggest airline in Germany and the third largest low-fare carrier in Europe also. The Air Berlin placed new standards with its Euro Shuttle, which links to the European cities.
